Monday Homework and Movie Showing

1. There is no Geography homework tonight.

2. Remember to turn in any make-up work by THURSDAY AT 2PM.

3. IF YOU DID NOT WATCH ONE OF THE 2 MOVIES OVER BREAK: I will be renting "Invictus" tomorrow, and will stay after school on WEDNESDAY for any students who wish to watch the movie and submit their response (to make-up the assignment from vacation.) Anyone who wants to stay after to watch is of course welcome. I will start the movie EXACTLY at 2 pm.

February Vacation Homework

During the vacation... I am asking that each student watch either:

"Invictus", a movie about a South African rugby team after apartheid. (Starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman)

Or

"Hotel Rwanda", a movie about one man's mission to save people from the genocide that occurred there. (Starring Don Cheadle)

Invictus is available at Red Box, and Hotel Rwanda can be ordered via NetFlix, but only as an actually DVD.

Another option is to rent them off of iTunes, both are available, for $2.99

I'd like you to pick one to watch, and then either respond to the blog post about the movie you chose, email a response, or bring a written response on Monday after break. Respond to AT LEAST one of the following questions.

"What did you think about the movie?"
"How did it make you feel?"
"How realistic do you think it was?" (this question might require some outside research)

You can certainly get together and watch one of the movies, and if you do, discuss the movie and you may turn in a group response.

After the break we will be doing short units on both South Africa and Rwanda.

Have a fun and safe break! I am available via email at all times if you have any questions :)

Also... Jupiter Grades will be updated by MONDAY... if you are missing any assignments, look through your stuff and bring it in the day we come back. If you can't find them, I will allow you to make up SOME of them, come see me to get copies of the worksheet.

Term 3 ENDS ON FRIDAY after we come back.

Thursday Homework

If you have not gone yet, you WILL present tomorrow.

You had PLENTY of time in class... 2 days, both periods, for a total of almost 4 hours of iPad time.

So if your presentation is NOT finished, you will need to present what you have, and I will grade what you completed, you WILL lost points for not completing the assignment, as most of your classmates were able to complete the project, with time to spare.

I will be collecting the NOTES you are supposed to be taking TOMORROW. They are for a grade, and your behavior during the presentations will be taken into consideration when I grade them.

Weekend Homework

In order to do our "digital field trip" on Monday and Tuesday, you need to do some research ahead of time. The worksheet you got on Friday has your assigned country on it.

The 10 questions will help you as you do the background research on your country.

On Monday and Tuesday you will get to use the iPads to do more research, collect pictures, explore with GoogleEarth, and put together a "digital scrapbook" in the form of a keynote presentation.

On Wednesday, you will present your "scrapbook" to the class so we can all learn about the country you "visited".

If you are having trouble finding information, try these sites as a starting place:

The BBC: Country Profiles

Nations Online

The World Factbook (from the CIA)

The U.S. Department of State

If you are stuck, or need help with something... either post a comment to this blog entry or email Ms. Hurst :)

Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Tonight you need to complete the Chapter 20 "Processing" worksheet. Think about the environment that YOU live in. How do people adapt to survive in your environment?

You also need to be prepared to present your lesson tomorrow. Remember, it needs to be about 5 minutes long. You will be graded on:

1. Did you get creative in how your taught the information?
2. Did you give all the information needed from your section?
3. Was your group prepared to present?
4. Did everyone participate?

Can't wait to see what you've come up with!

ALSO... if you haven't yet, don't forget to respond to yesterday's question about social media. And check out what your classmates wrote already!

Thursday Homework

You need to sign up as a "follower" of the class blog. Homework will be posted nightly. You will also be able to find the syllabus, rules, procedures, and policies. If you or your parents/guardians have a question about the class, this should be the first place you look. You will also be assigned to comment on a blog entry at least once a week, this may be an article I'd like you to look at or a question I want your to consider. I will tell you when there is a blog to comment on, and you will be responsible for posting withing 2 days. You should respond to this post with the following information:
